About Lucy

I am the Business Services Manager at Prosteel Engineering Ltd, a structural steel company based in Pontypool, where I lead across Finance, HR and Administration. With a strong career in finance, I am passionate about using financial insight, commercial understanding and effective leadership to help the business improve, grow and prepare for the future. I believe that finance is about much more than numbers; it is about understanding how a business operates, identifying opportunities, supporting informed decision-making and creating the foundations for long-term success. I am enthusiastic about demonstrating the value women bring to leadership, particularly in sectors such as engineering, where the contribution of people working in finance, operations and business services can sometimes sit behind the more visible technical roles. I believe that diversity of experience, perspective and expertise is essential to building stronger businesses and creating opportunities for innovation and progress.

Proudest achievements

  • A key part of my role has been helping prepare Prosteel for a major programme of digital transformation, including the introduction of a new finance system and specialist fabrication software. These systems will support greater automation, more efficient invoicing and improved reporting, helping us make better use of information and work more effectively across the organisation.
  • I recognise that successful digital transformation is about much more than technology. It requires the right processes, reliable data and, most importantly, people who are ready and supported to embrace change. By focusing on these foundations, I am helping ensure that the business is well positioned to make the most of these developments and move towards a more connected, data-driven and future-ready way of working.
  • Despite being relatively new to Prosteel, I am proud of the progress we are making and the foundations we are building for the future. I want to continue making a positive difference, not only through financial and operational improvements, but by helping create a business that is more efficient, forward-thinking and ready to embrace new opportunities.

About Pro Steel Engineering Limited

Pro Steel Engineering is a specialist steel engineering company based in Pontypool, South Wales, delivering high-quality fabrication, project management, and installation services across the UK and internationally.

About Lucy's team

What matters most to me is that, behind every improvement and every new system, there are people who make it all happen. I am proud to be part of Prosteel and to have the opportunity to work alongside its people as we continue to develop and move the business forward together. Since joining Prosteel, I have been made to feel incredibly welcome and supported by the people across the business. Starting somewhere new is always a learning experience, but the openness and support I have received have made settling in and becoming part of the team a really positive experience. I have particularly enjoyed getting to know people across the organisation, understanding their roles and learning more about what makes Prosteel such a special business to be part of.

The journey

My career journey so far has been shaped by my passion for finance, my desire to continually learn and develop, and my belief that there is always an opportunity to make things better. I have developed an understanding of the important role financial management plays in the success of a business. For me, it has always been about understanding the bigger picture, building relationships, solving problems and using information to help businesses make better decisions. Joining Prosteel has been an exciting chapter in my journey. Working within the structural steel industry has given me the opportunity to apply my financial experience in a new environment while taking on responsibility across Finance, HR and Administration. Although I have been with the business for less than a year, I have embraced the opportunity to challenge existing processes, lead improvements and help prepare the organisation for significant digital transformation. My journey has also shaped the kind of leader I want to be: someone who is approachable, collaborative and committed to helping others succeed. I believe leadership is about more than the position you hold; it is about the difference you make, the confidence you build in others and your willingness to take responsibility for moving things forward. For me, success is not simply about what I achieve personally, but about the positive difference I can make to the people I work with and the businesses I help shape.

Why your vote matters

Being nominated for the Finance Leader Award and the Women in STEM Leadership Award is a real honour. Both nominations reflect areas I care deeply about: effective financial leadership, developing people, embracing technology and helping the business evolve. I am proud to be contributing to the future of an engineering business and hope my journey demonstrates how combining financial expertise, people-focused leadership and a passion for innovation can make a meaningful difference.
