Athina Summerbell

Hi I’m Athina, and I like making things happen. As Head of Communication Engagement and Policy at the Welsh Refugee Council, I focus on creating clear, effective communication and policies that make a real difference for refugees and communities in need. Before this role, I worked in the women’s sector, where I specialised in grant writing, income generation, and building strong relationships to help organisations with their gender equity journeys. My early career in the private sector taught me how to manage customer relationships and train teams to deliver excellent service—skills that I still use today. What I care about? Making an impact through thoughtful communication, collaboration, and a bit of creativity. When I’m not working, I’m either reading, drinking coffee, or walking with the dog. Feel free to reach out if you want to talk about communication strategies, social impact, or just share a coffee recom
